Cllr Pauline Jorgensen took a look at progress on the new bridge recently, she said "work is progressing well, despite the maze of pipes and cables around the old bridge which necessitated the use of vacuum excavation".
Once complete, the new bridge will allow a continuous flow traffic both ways, removing a significant congestion bottleneck.
In addition to the new bridge, a flood attenuation basin will also be installed as part of WBC's flood risk management strategy.
